1983 Datsun 280ZX Turbo, T-Top, 2+2 (STOCK, NO MODIFICATIONS)
Clear title. Runs and drives well. Always been a Southern California car.
I have only driven the car around 10k miles during the time I have owned it.
things that have been replaced while I have owned it:
Clutch master/slave Cylinder
New clutch kit
All new old stock turbo fuel injectors
Catalytic converter
Alternator
Drive shaft
Brake disc rotors
Various vacuum hoses
At this time, the car is running as well as it ever has. I'm confident in the reliability of the vehicle at this time which is a big part of why I feel it is the right time to sell. I simply do not foresee having enough time to give it the care it deserves and the neighbors don't appreciate its racing pedigree as much as I do. It has always passed smog and has recently passed as well, one less thing for you to worry about.
Over the years, things have been fixed as they came up. The AC does currently work. However, only after replacing some vacuum hoses which were required to pass its recent emissions test. It was explained to me in the past that normally the issue with these AC systems is that they are vacuum run and rely on deteriorating gaskets that often need to be replaced with retrofitted parts.
The car has rust around the seams of the windows and near the T-tops however, when I have had it inspected by painters, they believed that the rust was more superficial than a sign of a repair was needed. The only issue with repainting the car is actually to find seals for the windows or to repair the existing ones (specifically for the T-tops)
I love to drive this car. Every time I get in it, I am reminded why I still have it. It stops when I put my foot on the brake without the argument a newer car tends to provide and it goes when the accelerator is pressed. The turbo builds excitement and it makes me want to throw it into a corner. I always get the sense that it was designed for that precise purpose. There is just something about using a machine for what it was meant to be used for. If you are looking for a project car that is in a reliable state then this might be the car for you!
More information about the car: This is a 1983 Datsun 280ZX 2+2 with T-tops. Being an '83 means that it is a mark 2 which simply means that its aerodynamics are more stable at higher speeds than the mk1. It does happen to be the same year as the anniversary edition, however I have come to understand that those specific models were all black and gold as well as automatic transmission. So, you will be disappointed if you believe this car might be one of those.
Asking price: $9,500 or best offer. I feel that this price is fair and I will not entertain offers well below it. It speaks to what I think possible costs of repairs/paint may be compared to cars in similar running condition. The rarity of this package and year also hold weight along with its genuine mileage number. This is a good candidate for a vehicle that could be taken in different directions, be it more preservation oriented or otherwise.
If you have a request for more pictures, I will be happy to provide them.
